Denniston Incline, Westcoast, NZ.
"The eighth wonder of the world!"
From 1878 to 1884 Robert
Austen Young and brother Henry
William Young, worked together as the firm Young Bros. Working for
the Westport Coal Company they were the engineers of the Denniston Incline
and the branch railway and sidings from Waimangaroa to the foot of the
incline.
At this stage I'm not yet ready to complete a narrative on the Denniston
Incline. I can, however, say that this desolate place must have had a
lot of coal to make up for the hardship, isolation and weather.
In the meantime more information can be found at the "Friends
of the Hill" website.
